HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

The number of treatments required differs from person to person. Chronic or long standing conditions  may need one or two treatments a week for several months.  Acute or short term problems will  usually need less treatments.  Health maintenance requires only four treatments per year.

ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS TO THE TREATMENTS?

Usually not. As energy is redirected in the body healing begins. Occasionally the original symptoms  may worsen for a few days,or other general changes in appetite, sleep, bowel or urinary patterns,  or emotional states may be triggered.  These changes should not be cause for concern, as they are  simply indications that acupuncture is starting to work. It is common to have a deep relaxation or  even mild disorientation immediately following the treatment.  These will pass in a short time, and never  require anything more than a bit of rest to overcome.

WHAT ARE THE NEEDLES LIKE? DO THEY HURT?

The needles are as fine as hair. They are not hollow like the needles used to draw blood. The needles  are solid stainless steel and are disposable.   They come in sterilized packages and are disposed  of after each use, thus eliminating the risk of infection. The insertion of the needle is most often  painless or if it is felt, feels like a mosquito bite. Rarely there is a point that causes pain.  There usually is no bleeding associated with acupuncture.  On occasions a drop of blood may ooze  to the surface. We have done acupuncture on many people, their main fear was pain. They were astonished  when there was no real pain involved in the treatment.

ARE THERE ANY "DO'S" AND "DON'TS" FOR ME THE DAY OF A TREATMENT?

Yes. Within three hours of your appointment, avoid caffeine and eat lightly.  Wear loose comfortable clothes that are easy to roll up to your knees and elbows.  Within 6 hours of your treatment avoid alcohol and strenuous activity. Avoid exposure to  inclement weather for at least 24 hours.

DOES ACUPUNCTURE REALLY WORK?

YES. People have been treated for thousands of years.  Today, acupuncture is practiced widely in  Asia, Europe, North and South America. A person does not have to believe in acupuncture in order  for it to work.  Although a positive attitude does help a persons' well-being. Acupuncture has  flourished over thousands of years because IT WORKS!
